Urolithin A trial separates muscle-endurance signals from primary endpoints

Human randomized trial; limited functional evidence, not lifespan extensionA randomized placebo-controlled study in older adults reported improvement in selected muscle-endurance measures after urolithin A supplementation. Six-minute walk distance and maximal ATP production did not show significant between-group improvement.2026-09-28

Shows how a mechanism-inspired intervention can be tested in humans with both positive and null findings reported.

Rapamycin started at 600 days extends survival at three mouse-study sites

Data as of 2026-09-28Analyse record ↗

Examples

Genetically heterogeneous male and female mice received rapamycin chow from 600 days of age. Age at 90% mortality increased by 14% in females and 9% in males across pooled sites.

Why it might help

Demonstrates that a pharmacological intervention begun late in life can alter mammalian survival, with replication across three sites and both sexes.

Status

Three-site mouse survival study; published 2009

Notes

The experiment did not establish whether the survival effect arose from delayed cancer, broader aging mechanisms or both. It did not establish a safe and effective regimen for people.
